Also, I find it hilarious that on the kids’ side, everything was neat and orderly and no one was really panicking, but on the adults’ side it was RIOTS EVERYWHERE. I suppose it has something to do with paternal instincts.

Continued from part I, which I posted earlier today. I’m posting this as I write it. This part deals with Roy waking up. Still in-progress, and killing me with all the feels.
Jade escapes his apartment while he was otherwise distracted, but for once Roy doesn’t mind her disappearing act. He’s too busy with something far more important – his…daughter. His baby girl.
Lian.
A beautiful name for a beautiful little angel. Roy is shocked that something so gorgeous, something so perfect could come from someone as damaged and ugly and disgusting as himself. He carefully slips her out of papoose in which Jade had wrapped her, mindful of the fact that she is still asleep. He runs a rough, calloused hand over her cheek, feeling as though he’s dirtying her just by being in her presence. But…her skin is so soft. So undamaged, so pure.
She’s got ten perfect little fingers, curled tightly into two perfect little fists. He reckons she could really hurt someone some day with those suckers. He slowly slides her little socks off and finds ten perfect little toes. She kicks in her sleep, wanting him to leave her feet alone. Roy’s impressed by the strength that Lian puts behind it – she’s got to only be two or three months at the oldest, and already she’s a powerhouse.
Perfect. Just…everything about her is perfect.
And maybe, just maybe, a little bit of perfection is what he needs in his life.

“Are you insane?” Roy yelps. “We can’t take a baby on a rescue mission!”
“We can and we will.” Jade replies, implacable. “Lian’s spent her entire life coming with me everywhere I go. She knows when to be quiet.”
“It’s- that’s not- let’s leave her with Artemis!”
“We can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because,” Jade says, with an iciness that tells him she’s coming very close to throwing something sharp and most likely poisoned in his direction, “Artemis can’t know about Lian. Artemis and that speedster of hers live together. If she knows, he knows, and I will not trust our daughter’s life to that moron’s ability to keep his mouth shut. Additionally,” she adds when he looks like he’s going to interrupt, “Sportsmaster is at large. He’ll be keeping a close eye on Artemis. He’ll be keeping a close eye on our mother. He probably won’t move against them, but there’s nothing to keep him from going to Ra’s al Ghul himself and telling him about Lian. I’m already walking a razor thin line.” she hisses.
For the first time, Roy really looks at his wife. She hides it well, but he’s learned the signs; the tension in her shoulders, the expression in her eyes, the set of her mouth. Jade is exhausted, and… frightened. Goosebumps rise on his arms. Lian runs her hands over them, giggling.
“No one can know about Lian.” Jade tells him, eyes softening as she looks at their daughter. “It’s too dangerous for her. I will not have our daughter targeted by- or raised in- the Shadows.”
Roy hears what she’s not saying: I will not have my daughter raised as I was.
He sighs. “All right, Chesh. If you really think we can keep her safe-“
“You’d never have met her if I didn’t.”

People start to notice Dick coming to school with more cuts and bruises than is average, and begin to suspect abuse. When CPS becomes involved and threaten Bruce’s custody, Dick realizes he might have to go to extreme measures to make sure he can stay with his new family.
Anyway, while complaining about the vast number of unfinished fics I have, I noticed this one and was startled to find the idea that I’ve been mentally narrating for a while now already partially typed!
